Degree Celsius is a new coffee specialty place, also offering a selection of pastries.

With the recent emergence of multiple ice cream shops and their name – Degree Celsius, one will easily relate them to an ice cream shop. But nope, they do not serve ice cream.

Opened at UBS building directly across the road from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Exit B, Degree Celsius is a new 25-seater space, considered quite a pretty big seating area for just coffee and pastries.

Stepping inside, the 4-metres tall plant wall at the coffee bar counter is definitely eye-catching, adding some vibrancy to the white interior space that is equipped with white furnitures.

The entire space is separated into 2 different areas – decorated with a botanical theme, with tall tables and stools at the entrance and mini coffee tables at the other end of the cafe.

The menu focuses on coffee using a single origin coffee bean from Ethiopia, roasted by Jewel Coffee.

Think Americano (8oz $3.50, 12oz $4.50), Cappuccino/ Latte/ Flat White (8oz $6, 12oz $6.50) and Mocha (8oz $6.50, 12oz $7).

The smallest cup size used for their espresso-based drinks is 8oz, considered bigger than what is served in many other cafes.

My cup of Flat White (8oz $6, 12oz $6.50) was smooth and medium bodied, but a tad milky, with a floral and fruity finish.

Other non-espresso drinks on the menu include Tea ($4), Matcha Latte (8oz $6, 12oz $6.50), Iced Lemon Tea ($5.50), Chocolate (8oz $5.50, 12oz $6) and Ice Blend ($7.50 – $8).

For some light bites, there are pastries such as Buttery Croissant ($3), Pain au Chocolate ($4), Raisin Scone ($3.50), Cheese Croissant ($4.50), Muffin ($3.50), Boston Cheesecake ($6.50) and Dark Chocolate Cake ($6.50).

Nothing fanciful and really stood out to me, I decided to order a Cheese Croissant ($4.50) that was nicely warmed up before serving.

The Cheese Croissant ($4.50) was decent, not as flaky and buttery as expected with a slight savoury cheese taste in it.

Looking at their opening hours, Degree Celsius may not attract the usual cafehoppers but rather, serves as a spot for office workers to get their caffeine fix.
