Allauddin’s Briyani – One Of Singapore’s Best Nasi Briyani at Tekka Food Centre, With Michelin Recommendation

Originally named Zhujiao Centre, Tekka Centre at Little India is an iconic destination at this part of town for authentic Indian cuisine.

Among the many stalls selling Nasi Briyani in this food centre aloe, Allauddin’s has earned the attention of Singapore Michelin Guide with a Michelin Plate.

It has a history of more than 40 years.

Briyani (also called “Biryani” depending on region) is a type of mixed long-grain Indian rice dish flavoured with spices such that it is rich and flavourful; with the word derived from a Persian word ” birian” which means fried before cooking.

Over at Tekka, there are two Allauddin’s stalls on opposite side, with the other selling Prata, Murtabak, Mee Goreng, and Maggie Goreng.

Choose from Mutton, Chicken or Fish Briyani for $5, and customers can top up with chicken sambal ($3.50), fried chicken ($3.50), fried fish ($3.50) or mutton cutlet ($1.50).

The signature Nasi Briyani (or briyani rice) made with fluffy, long-grained high-quality basmati rice.

The guy serving would scoop rice and place meat on it in alternate layers.

When I packed it home, I would smell its heady aroma after opening from the variety of spices, plus garlic, yogurt, onions, cashew nuts, and ghee.

Compared to most other briyani I had, I noted that the yellow-orange grains were more evenly coloured, and quite gentle in terms of spice level.

It was flavourful but not as robust as I would have expected; the pro is it is not as greasy or cloying as well (that I could actually finish the packet.)

The chicken drumstick was tender. Generously portioned, the briyani was supposedly accompanied with vegetable dhal and achar (pickled cucumbers) as seen in other customers’ photo, though I found none in my pack.

There was also additional curry gravy provided different from what was layered in the rice, milder in taste and could be described as slightly sweet.
